National Lottery Heritage Fund - Working Lass Project.

About the Project
Working Lass is a National Lottery Heritage funded project facilitated by Pink-collar Gallery. The aim of the project was to find, highlight, and elevate the role of North East women in the liberation movement from the 1960s to the 1990s.
Community members were invited to participate in workshops, nominating women or groups who had made a significant impact through political activism, social movements, charitable work, or cultural influence. A collaborative scrapbook was created during these sessions, capturing the stories, memories, and contributions of these inspiring women.
Following the workshops, a panel selected ten women whose community impact stood out.
We’re now excited to move into the next phase of the project:
-
Ten zine-making workshops, each dedicated to celebrating one of the selected women
-
A final showcase event on 26th June at The Pavilion, Sunderland, highlighting the work created and stories collected.
The legacies of these women will be honoured through specially designed banners and archived online, with additional context and resources added over time. This will become a living archive—an ongoing celebration of working-class women and their roles in shaping our communities and histories.
