A one-off embroidery drawing of Gloria Steinem by Michaela Wetherell, Director of Pink Collar Gallery. This piece is part of an ongoing series celebrating feminist and cultural icons who have shaped and inspired the artist’s practice.
Michaela Wetherell is an amateur maker who, after more than a decade working in the arts as a curator, producer, and director of Pink Collar Gallery, has recently begun developing her own creative practice. Long advocating that creativity is for everyone, this work comes from finally taking that belief seriously herself.
This series translates admiration into stitched form — beginning with drawing and evolving into embroidery. Rather than aiming for precise likeness, the work focuses on energy, gesture, and presence, building layered, intuitive compositions through thread.
This body of work has previously included figures such as Annie Lennox, Poly Styrene, and Dolly Parton, and has been shown as part of tion collective exhibition at Pop Recs.
